Welcoming address

It is our great pleasure to announce the 13th international conference on Electrical Bio-Impedance (ICEBI). This triennial conference is the major international platform for the presentation of scientific work in the area of electrical bio-impedance and offers a unique opportunity for learning the most recent achievements in this field.

Bio-impedance is a specialized biomedical research field with very long tradition which dates back to the days of Maxwell. Since the first international conference in New York 1969 we have seen exciting new developments, ranging from the characterization of cellular processes to functional medical imaging.

We welcome you cordially to participate in this exciting meeting and invite you to contribute with your newest scientific results or to exhibit your bioimpedance-related product and to acquire new knowledge about bio-impedance.

The 13th ICEBI will be joined with the 8th conference on Electrical Impedance Tomography, the annual meeting for biomedical impedance imaging. It is endorsed by the International Society for Electrical Bio-Impedance (ISEBI) and kindly co-organized by Prof. Woo from the Impedance Imaging Research Center (IIRC) at the Kyung Hee University (Korea).

The conference will be held at the Graz University of Technology, one of the most important traditional Austrian centres for research and teaching, founded in 1811. Famous scientists such as Nikola Tesla, Ferdinand Wittenbauer, Richard Zsigmondy (nobel price fo chemistry 1926) studied at this University. Besides the scientific program Graz is a very lovely place for sightseeing. Especially the Old Town with its narrow lanes and picturesque courtyards with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture is a beautiful experience. Forming the nucleus of one o the best preserved cities in Europe it has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999. Moreover the city was elected as European Cultural Capital of the year 2003, leading to the construction of several modern buildings which contrast in a interesting and harmonic way with the traditional facades of the Old Town. At the end of August there is a rich offer of cultural activities and a lot of possibilities to explore the very beautiful surroundings of Graz. So once again we invite you very cordially to join the 13th ICEBI and we will be happy to welcome you in Graz.
